Cheonbuljeon Hall at Daeheungsa Temple in Haenam, Jeollanam-do, was destroyed by fire in 1811, the eleventh year of King Sunjo, and was rebuilt in 1813. Inside, a wooden Buddhist triad is enshrined at the centre, with a thousand Buddha statues carved from jade-like stone behind them. The 'thousand Buddhas' represent the idea that there were a thousand Buddhas in the past, there are a thousand in the present, and there will be a thousand in the future — expressing the belief that the Buddha exists at all times and in all places, that anyone can become a Buddha, and that anyone can receive the Buddha's grace.
