A baeryeseok is a stone platform on which Buddhist worshippers visiting a temple would join their palms together in prayer, serving as a symbolic space of worship. This one stands in a flowerbed about 10 m east of the stone lantern (a treasure) of Gwanchoksa Temple. It measures 2.4 m in length, 1.03 m in width and 0.4 m in height. It takes the form of a rectangular base stone. Its sides are carved with shallow ansang, arch-shaped niche motifs, within which fern-like, mushroom-cloud patterns are carved. At the centre of the upper surface is a large lotus flower, flanked on either side by two slightly smaller lotus flowers with their stems. The carving throughout is refined and possesses a dignified beauty, and the piece survives in good original condition despite its age; it is presumed to date from the Goryeo period.
