생육신이경은선생제단 · 生六臣李耕隱先生祭壇

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis house was built to hold memorial rites for Yi Maeng-jeon (1392–1480), known by his pen name Gyeongeun, one of the Saengyuksin, the six scholars who remained loyal to the deposed King Danjong and refused to serve at court. It was built in 1713, the thirty-ninth year of King Sukjong of Joseon, by royal command, by his descendants Yi Yu-yong, Yi Sib-yong and others. Yi Maeng-jeon had a reputation for integrity and incorruptibility. In 1453, the first year of King Danjong, when Grand Prince Suyang drove out Hwangbo In, Kim Jong-seo and other officials who were assisting King Danjong, seizing power and throwing the country into turmoil, Yi Maeng-jeon gave up his official post the following year and returned to his hometown. Pretending to be deaf and blind, he refused to see even his close friends, and lived for more than thirty years without going out through his gate, dying at the age of over ninety. The building measures five bays across the front and one bay to the side, with a gabled roof whose side takes the shape of the character 人 (person).
