In the mountain valley of Namcheon-ri, known as "Tapgol-dong" or "Jeolgol-dong," lies the site of a small temple whose name is no longer known. A short distance from the temple site, at the foot of the mountain, stands this modest, well-proportioned pagoda: a three-storey body set upon a two-tier base. The lower tier of the base is carved with pillar shapes at the centre and corners of each of its four sides, while the upper tier is carved only at the corners. The roof stones covering each storey of the body show a beautiful harmony between their curving drip-lines and their level eaves. The upward lift at the four corners is light, and the support tiers beneath the roof stones diminish gradually from five at the first storey to four and then three. At the top, a finial broken into three pieces sits precariously on a square base. Overall, this is a Goryeo-period stone pagoda in which an elegant sense of balance is well expressed.
