우암 송시열 집터 · 尤菴 宋時烈 집터

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krCarved on the face of a natural rock is the inscription "Jeungjubyeongnip" (曾朱壁立), written in the hand of Song Si-yeol, whose pen name was Uam. This is the site of Uam's former house, and a stone marker inscribed "Uam-gugi" ("Uam's Old Site") also survives here. Uam was a Joseon-period Confucian scholar who devoted his life to the study of Neo-Confucianism and carried on the scholarship of Yi I (Yulgok). He became tutor to King Hyojong while Hyojong was still crown prince, and later took an active part when King Hyojong planned a campaign against Qing. The inscription carved into the rock expresses Uam's firm resolve to carry on and put into practice the thought of Zengzi and Zhu Xi.
