Standing Stone Buddha of Yonghwasa Temple
용화사 석조여래입상 · 龍華寺 石造如來立像

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis Buddha statue stands on the hillside to the left of the road leading from Mokcheon-myeon Office to Byeongcheon, carved from a cylindrical block of stone. Its slender yet full face, with eyes that appear gently closed, a high, straight nose, and a small, neat mouth, gives an impression of elegance and compassion. The robe covering both shoulders is thick, so that the contours of the body are barely visible, but U-shaped folds are rendered running from the exposed chest down to below the knees. The right hand is shown palm-forward with the fingers pointing upward, while the left hand is shown palm-forward with the fingers pointing downward. Overall, it is a work of the Goryeo period that faithfully carries on the tradition of Unified Silla Buddhist sculptural style.
