Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is Volume 23, Part 1 of the Zizhi Tongjian Gangmok. The Zizhi Tongjian is a chronological general history of China compiled by Sima Guang of Song China; Zhu Xi, also of Song China, reorganised its principal facts as 'gang' (headings), following the style of the Chunqiu (Spring and Autumn Annals), and added Neo-Confucian commentary as 'mok' (details), naming the resulting work the Zizhi Tongjian Gangmok. King Sejong had the vast quantities of paper needed for printing it made in central and provincial offices, and had Grand Prince Jinyang write the large characters for the text of the 'gang' sections, which were cast in lead in 1436 under the name Byeongjinja. The medium and small characters of the 'mok' sections were printed using the Gabinja, cast in 1434, and this particular book was printed in 1438.
