A sindobi is a memorial stele erected before a tomb, recording the lifetime achievements of a king or high official; this stele commemorates the accomplishments of Sang Jin (1493–1564), who served as Chief State Councillor (Yeonguijeong) under King Myeongjong of Joseon. Sang Jin lost his parents at a young age and was raised in the house of his brother-in-law. He passed the civil service examination in 1519, the 14th year of King Jungjong, held a range of official posts, and was appointed State Councillor of the Right (Uuijeong) in 1549, the fourth year of King Myeongjong. He then remained in the position of chief minister until 1563, the 18th year of King Myeongjong, carrying out his duties faithfully with loyalty and generosity of spirit. He was also of upright and incorruptible character and enjoyed deep trust; upon his death King Myeongjong bestowed on him the posthumous title "Seongan." Located within the grounds of Sangmun High School, the stele has its body set upon a pedestal stone carved with flowers and a tiger, topped with a roof stone. It was erected in 1566, the 21st year of King Myeongjong; the inscription was composed by Hong Seom, a noted writer of King Seonjo's reign, and the calligraphy was written by Song In.
