Cheongnyeongheon Hall, Chungju
충주 청녕헌 · 忠州 淸寧軒

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krA dongheon was the main building of an old local government office, where officials carried out their administrative duties. This building was the dongheon of Chungju-mok, where the magistrate of Chungju once conducted official business. It is said to have burned down in a fire in 1870, the seventh year of Emperor Gojong of Joseon, and to have been rebuilt that same year by Jo Byeong-no. The present building was later converted for use as the offices of Jungwon County, but was restored to its original form in 1983 when the county office moved elsewhere. It measures seven bays across the front and four bays along the side, and has a hip-and-gable roof, so called because, seen from the side, it resembles the Chinese character for "eight" (八). The central three bays form a wooden-floored hall, the bay at the right end is a floored room, the two bays to the left of the hall are heated ondol rooms, and the bay at the far left is a raised timber-floored pavilion.
