Tapdong Three-story Stone Pagoda
탑동삼층석탑 · 塔洞三層石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis pagoda has a three-storey body raised on a single-tier platform (gidan), topped with a finial, and shows some traits of Baekje pagoda style. The base stone of the platform was buried in concrete during a repair of the pagoda. The body of the pagoda is assembled from several stones fitted together like pieces; the first-storey body stone is relatively large, but the body stones of the second and third storeys drop sharply in height. The first-storey roof stone has a separate two-tiered support stone beneath it. The roof stones are thin and broad, with the four corners curving slightly upward. At the top, the finial elements survive, including the noban (a flat base plate for the finial), the bokbal (an inverted bowl-shaped ornament) and the anghwa (an ornament shaped like a fully-bloomed lotus flower). As a Goryeo-period stone pagoda erected in what was once Baekje territory, it follows the tradition of Baekje pagoda style, reflecting local characteristics.
