Je Geumdang Hall, Chungju
충주 제금당 · 忠州 製錦堂

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krJe Geumdang Hall is a government office building from the early Joseon period, which was also used as a guest house to receive distinguished visitors. In 1870, the seventh year of Emperor Gojong, it burned down together with Cheongnyeongheon Hall and was rebuilt that same year by Jo Byeong-no, the magistrate of Chungju. It subsequently served as the office of the governor of Jungwon County, before being restored to its original form in 1983. The building measures seven bays across the front and three bays along the side, with a hip-and-gable roof that forms the shape of the Chinese character 八 (eight) when viewed from the side. The bracket sets supporting the roof eaves are carved in bird-wing shapes, in the ikgong style. The central two bays form a wooden-floored hall, while the two bays to the right and three bays to the left are fitted out with underfloor-heated ondol rooms and wooden-floored rooms.
