Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krAn incense burner is a vessel used in Buddhist temples to burn incense, said to cleanse the impurities of the mind. This burner stands 110 cm high in total, with the body 80 cm, the lid 30 cm and the legs 25 cm. It is presumed to date from the Joseon period. At the centre of the lid is a crouching lion figure, which serves as both a knob and a handle, and lion-head handles are also attached at the sides. The surface is inlaid with silver in vine-scroll and peony patterns, and its original form is well preserved.
