Ganghojeong is a pavilion built by Jeong Se-a, a leader of the uibyeong, the righteous armies raised during the Imjin War, so that he could study and train disciples. It was built in 1599, the thirty-second year of King Seonjo, and has undergone several repairs since; the present building was moved to its current site and rebuilt in 1977 because of the construction of Yeongcheon Dam. Jeong Se-a rendered great service in recovering the Yeongcheon and Gyeongju regions during the Imjin War, and after the war he is said to have declined all honours offered by the state, instead building this pavilion in his home village of Yongsan-dong, where he devoted himself to scholarship and to teaching his disciples. The building is three kan across the front and two kan along the side, with a gable roof whose sides form the shape of the character in (person). There are two rooms of two kan each on either side, with a single kan in the centre laid as a wooden floor and fitted with an ornate balustrade. Behind it stand two small auxiliary buildings, through whose courtyard one climbs up to reach the pavilion.
