This is said to be the place where Wi Baek-gyu (1727–1798), known by his pen name Jonjae, who was well versed in astronomy and geography, taught his students. It was first built in 1372, the twenty-first year of King Gongmin of Goryeo, but having fallen into serious disrepair, it was rebuilt around 1870, during the reign of Emperor Gojong of Joseon, and has survived in that form to this day. The building has a U-shaped layout, five bays wide and four bays deep, with a hip-and-gable roof whose sides form the shape of the character 八 (eight). The three central bays are ondol-heated rooms, while the front and back sections on either side project outward as raised timber-floored pavilions fitted with balustrades. Unusually, the roofs of the two raised pavilions take the form of a hip-and-gable roof at the front, while at the rear they take the form of a gable roof, whose sides form the shape of the character 人 (person).
