Three-story Stone Pagoda of Uirimsa Temple, Changwon
창원 의림사 삼층석탑 · 昌原 義林寺 三層石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis three-story stone pagoda stands within the grounds of Uirimsa Temple, a temple of the Unified Silla period. It originally stood in front of the yosachae, the building where monks lived, but was moved in 1974 to a spot in front of Daeungjeon Hall and partly repaired at that time. The pagoda has a body of three stories set on a two-tier base, the form typical of Unified Silla pagodas. Each side of the upper and lower tiers of the base is carved with pillar-shaped decoration at the corners and in the centre, while the body stones of the pagoda itself are carved with pillar shapes only at the corners. Each roof stone has a five-tiered support carved into its underside. At the top sits a finial made up of a noban, a flat stone supporting the crowning ornament, and a boju, a small ball-shaped ornament, though the boju was added at a later date. The roof stones are slightly damaged, but the pagoda is otherwise in relatively good condition. Because the base's central pillar carving has been reduced to a single pillar on each side, compared with the two pillars used during the style's peak period, the pagoda is presumed to have been built in the late Unified Silla period.
