Dongningak Pavilion
동린각 · 東麟閣

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis building was erected to honour Yi Sun-sin, who won great merit during the Japanese invasions of Korea, and Kim Wan. It was originally built at No-hang-dong in Jayang-myeon, burned down in 1785, the ninth year of King Jeongjo, and was rebuilt in 1787, the eleventh year of his reign. As time passed it fell into disrepair, and in 1960 it was moved to Seonggok-dong and repaired. In 1976, owing to the construction of Yeongcheon Dam, it was relocated to its present site. The central two bays form a wooden-floored hall (daecheong), and a shrine chamber at the rear enshrines the spirit tablets. The columns are of three types — square, octagonal and round — lending the building a refined air. The bracket sets that support the roof while also serving as decoration are placed only above the columns, a jusimpo style commonly seen in the Andong and Yeongcheon regions.
