This is a stone pagoda with a three-storey body set on a square, double-tiered platform. Only the capstone of the lower platform tier is exposed above ground, while the upper tier has corner pillars carved onto its roughly finished face stones. On the upper surface of the thick capstone is carved a downward-facing lotus-petal pattern often used on Goryeo-period stone pagodas, with a low, square pedestal for the body set in the centre. The body stones and the roof stones (okgaeseok, roof-shaped capping stones placed atop stone pagodas or lanterns) were each made from a single piece of stone. The first storey of the body was made to a height similar to that of the upper platform tier, but from the second storey upward it diminishes sharply, showing the distinctive proportions characteristic of Goryeo-period stone pagodas. The eaves of the roof stones slope relatively gently, running horizontal before curving upward at the corners. The pagoda stands on what is known as the former site of Bongeopsa Temple; excavation revealed that the lower platform tier of a Unified Silla-period stone pagoda had been reused. In addition, roof tiles inscribed with the sixth year of Taehwa (832) were unearthed beneath the platform, confirming that a temple had stood on the site since Unified Silla. This shows that the Juksan-ri Three-storey Stone Pagoda, after the temple and its pagoda were damaged amid the turmoil of the Later Three Kingdoms, was rebuilt on a large scale with the founding of Goryeo, reusing the platform of the earlier Unified Silla stone pagoda.
