오명항선생토적송공비 · 吳命恒先生討賊頌功碑

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a stele praising the achievements of O Myeong-hang (1673–1728), who put down the rebellion raised by Yi In-jwa in 1728, the fourth year of King Yeongjo. O Myeong-hang won a great victory in the battles at Anseong and Juksan, suppressed Yi In-jwa's rebellion, and was granted first-class merit-subject status as a Bunmu gongsin, a title awarded to meritorious subjects who had suppressed the revolt; he went on to serve as Deputy State Councillor before being appointed Right State Councillor. The commendation stele was erected in 1744, the 20th year of King Yeongjo, by the people of Anseong, who raised funds and had the stone dressed. Jo Hyeon-myeong, who had served in the campaign together with O Myeong-hang, composed the inscription, and Pak Mun-su wrote it out in calligraphy. Yi Gwang-deok wrote the jeonaek, the seal-script inscription giving the stele's title. On the back of the stele body, the section bearing the main inscription, Kim Si-hyeong wrote the roster of officers and soldiers of the punitive force, while on the sides are carved the names of the county magistrate Min Je-jang, who distinguished himself in the campaign, and of Anseong's officials. It originally stood in Dongbon-dong in Anseong-eup but was relocated to its present site, Anseong Park, in 1969. It takes the form of a square base supporting a stele body with a rounded top.
