The pine forest behind the house is very striking, the layout of the outdoor space is highly refined, and the site itself is spacious. The exact date of construction is not known, but tile inscriptions reading '30th year of Kangxi' (1691) on the eastern shed and '9th year of Jiaqing' (1804) on the sarangchae (men's quarters) have been found, suggesting that the house was built in the early 19th century. It consists of a daemungan-chae (gate quarters), a sarangchae, and an anchae (main women's quarters), with the sarangchae and anchae forming a square courtyard plan. The separately built gate quarters have two-bay servants' rooms (haengnangchae) on either side of the main gate, and the anchae and sarangchae are divided from each other by a wall. The anchae is a double-row (gyeopjip) building of four bays across the front and two bays deep, with a lavish paljak (hipped-and-gabled) roof whose sides splay out like the character 八 (eight). Rooms flank a central daecheong, a broad wooden-floored hall. The sarangchae, to the left of the anchae, is three bays in size, with a toenmaru (narrow veranda) at the front serving as a passage, and a spacious wooden-floored room at its left end. To the right of the sarangchae is a kitchen used for heating and a middle gate leading through to the anchae, and to the right of that are a stable, a storehouse and a kitchen, all connected through to the anchae; the storehouse has now been converted into a room. Unusually, the two pillars on the inner courtyard side, to the left of the middle gate, and the two kitchen pillars are octagonal. The house has changed owners many times, but its scale and the arrangement of its spaces suggest it belonged to a family of middle rank or above, and a distinctive feature is the wall dividing the courtyard into two spaces, left and right.
