This is a natural rock face on which the characters 'Stand Odae' are carved in seal script. During the reign of King Myeongjong of Joseon, Yi Hwang, then magistrate of Danyang, is said to have come to this spot every day to wash his hands and feet in order to relieve the fatigue of body and mind brought on by the duties of state. Yi Hwang named the place Stand Odae, meaning that it cleansed even a person's mind, and carved the characters here with his own hand.
