This is a seated stone Buddha carved onto a huge natural rock face in Suman-ri, Dongsang-myeon, Wanju-gun, Jeollabuk-do. The head is bald, with a large topknot-shaped bun rising prominently above it, and the plump face bears large, deeply carved eyes, nose and mouth. The broad chest and large knees give the figure a dignified, solid presence. The robe covering both shoulders is rendered rather thickly, with parallel folds carved across the whole body. The right hand hangs down, while the left rests against the abdomen. Despite being a massive figure, the pronounced volume given to the head and upper body is well balanced and conveys a strong sense of vigour.
