Old House in Husan-ri, Jecheon
제천 후산리 고가 · 堤川 後山里 古家

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis old house stood in Husan-ri, Cheongpung. Only the L-shaped main house (anchae) now survives, but by common practice a sarangchae, or men's reception quarters, probably once stood in front of the inner courtyard. The roof over the side room (geonneonbang) is a hip-and-gable roof whose gable end takes the shape of the character 八 ("eight"), while the kitchen side has a simple gable roof shaped like the character 人 ("person"), a combination that reflects an old-fashioned style. The house follows the common folk-house type of the central region, and is notable for having a storage room (utbang) behind the main room (anbang), and for a sangcheong, a space set up in one corner of the wooden-floored hall (daecheong) for ancestral memorial rites.
