Yangyang Kim Taek-jun House
양양김택준가옥 · 襄陽金澤俊家屋

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krStanding at the highest point in the village, with a low hill behind it, this house cannot be dated exactly, but is said to be about 200 years old; a descendant of the Gyeongju Kim clan currently lives there. Overall in the shape of the letter H, it is a typical gyeopjip, a house with two rows of rooms placed back to back, consisting of the main house, the men's quarters and outbuildings. The main house and the men's quarters have ornate hipped-and-gabled roofs whose gable ends form the shape of the character 八 (eight), while the outbuildings have simple gabled roofs in the shape of the character 人 (person). The main house has six rooms arranged in tandem, with a small side room to the right connecting it to the men's quarters. The two bays of the men's quarters have an external wooden veranda used as a passageway. To the left of the main house is the kitchen, in front of which a storeroom and a cattle shed have been added. The room adjoining the kitchen serves as a shrine housing ancestral tablets. On the left of the courtyard an old well is still preserved, and at the rear there is a cold-storage cellar of about 0.5 pyeong, dug into the hillside with stone walls. The courtyard has two entrances, said to have been used separately by men and women.
