Cheongpung Eungcheonggak Pavilion, Jecheon
제천 청풍 응청각 · 堤川 淸風 凝淸閣

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis pavilion building of a Joseon-period government office is thought to have been built in the early 19th century. It was originally a two-storey pavilion standing beside Hanbyeongnu Pavilion, the pavilion of the guest house of Cheongpung County, but it was relocated to its present site owing to the construction of Chungju Dam. It measures three bays across the front and two bays on the side, with an ornate hipped-and-gabled roof whose side profile forms the shape of the character 八. It stands on a single-tier stone platform; the ground floor has round columns with earthen walls filling the spaces between them, and appears to have been used as a storeroom. On the upper floor, round columns were used only at the front, with square columns elsewhere, and a railing runs around it. A three-tier wooden stairway on the south-east side allows access up and down. Left without dancheong, the decorative paintwork typical of such buildings, or any other colouring, with the bare wood surfaces exposed, it is a relatively plain pavilion.
