Standing with a hill densely covered in pine forest at its back, this house is the head house (jongga) of the Gyeongju Yi clan and appears to have been built about 200 years ago. It is a traditional dwelling of Gangwon State, of the typical ondol-centred, double-row (gyeopjip) layout with a wooden-floored hall (maru) added. The main building, four bays wide at the front and two bays deep at the side, forms a T-shape, with a one-bay cattle shed added at the front left and a one-bay room and storeroom added at the rear. The main building has an ornate hipped-and-gabled roof (paljakjibung), shaped like the character 八 when viewed from the side; on the right, three rooms are arranged in tandem, and the left bay houses the kitchen. The space above the cattle shed, which adjoins the kitchen, is used for storage, and the room connected to the kitchen can be entered only from outside. The section added onto the main building has a simple gable roof (matbaejibung), shaped like the character 人 when viewed from the side. In the side yard stands a two-bay outbuilding, with a small side gate mainly used by the women of the household. Two jujube trees, said to be auspicious when planted in the front yard facing south, stand there, reflecting an awareness of pungsu-jiri (Korean geomancy).
