Gangcheonsa Temple Five-story Stone Pagoda
강천사오층석탑 · 剛泉寺五層石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a five-storey stone pagoda standing in the front yard of Daeungjeon Hall at Gangcheonsa Temple. It consists of a five-storey body raised on a single-tier foundation, finely worked in granite. Each body stone of the pagoda has pillar shapes carved into its corners; these are clearly visible on the first storey but survive only as faint traces on the storeys above. The roof stones have three-tiered supports on their undersides, and the eaves run level before curving gently upward at the corners. A small finial sits atop the pagoda. The pagoda was erected in 1316, the third year of King Chungsuk of Goryeo, when the temple underwent a major expansion. Parts of the foundation and roof stones were damaged during the Korean War, and the pagoda was given minor repairs in 1959, bringing it to its present state.
