This is said to be a government office building of Cheongan-hyeon county from the Joseon period, traditionally held to have been built in 1405, the fifth year of King Taejong. It subsequently underwent repairs on several occasions, and the building that survives today is thought to date from the late 19th century. It was also repaired in 1915, and was altered while it was used for a time as the Cheongan police substation, before being restored in 1981. The building measures six bays across the front and three bays to the side. It has a hip-and-gable roof whose sides form the shape of the character 'eight' (八), with single eaves and no bracket sets — a mindori-jip, a simple house built without a bracket system. It stands on a low stone foundation; the plinth stones combine both dressed stone and natural stone, and although most of the columns are round, some square columns were also used. The front bay is left open as a toenmaru, a narrow wooden veranda; behind it, the three bays to the left form a daecheong, a wooden-floored hall, the two bays to the right are ondol, heated-floor, rooms, and the final bay is another toenmaru, fitted with a door. Compared with the typical dongheon, the main hall of a Joseon government office, of the late Joseon period, this is a modest building of reduced formality, and it provides good material for the study of Joseon-period government office architecture.
