This is the tomb of Yi Jeong-yeong (pen name Seogok, 1616–1686), a civil official of the late Joseon period. He passed the special state civil service examination as a third-class graduate in 1636, the fourteenth year of King Injo, and when the Manchu invasion broke out that year he accompanied Crown Prince Sohyeon, who was taken hostage to Shenyang, China (present-day Beijing), later holding a succession of official posts after returning home. In 1651, the second year of King Hyojong, he was serving as a compiler when he was impeached and dismissed for attending a royal lecture while drunk. He was later appointed Chief Censor in 1660, the first year of King Hyeonjong, and the following year travelled to Qing China as a deputy envoy on a mission of apology and condolence, after which he became governor of Pyeongyang Province. In 1672 he served again as Mayor of Hanseongbu, the pre-modern administration of Seoul, and travelled to Qing China once more as deputy winter solstice envoy. When King Hyeonjong died in 1674, he served on the royal tomb construction office before becoming Minister of Personnel. In 1677, the third year of King Sukjong, he acted as chief examiner while serving as Minister of Punishments, was banished to Cheorwon on charges of irregularities in the examination, and was later released. He subsequently became head of the Office of the Royal Clan, and in 1685 was admitted to the Giroso, an honorary body for senior officials of advanced age. The tomb is located in Sadang-dong, Dongjak-gu, Seoul. In front of it stand a memorial stele and an offering table, flanked left and right by mangjuseok — stone pillars signalling from afar that a tomb is present — and stone statues of civil officials.
