This Buddha statue, located in Bae-dong, Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, is missing its lower body below the waist, part of its aureole, and both hands, so its original form cannot be fully known. A rectangular hole for inserting the statue's feet is found in the lotus-patterned pedestal placed in front of it, showing that it was originally a standing image. The head bears a topknot-shaped hair bun rising prominently, giving the face a dignified yet gentle and well-balanced expression. Three curved lines are clearly carved on the neck, and the robe is draped over both shoulders. The aureole, which represents the light radiating from the Buddha's body, is carved with small Buddhas seated on lotus pedestals with hands joined in prayer, as well as figures soaring up into the sky. Judging by its overall carving style, this is an outstanding standing Buddha image made during the golden age of the Silla dynasty.
