This house originally stood in downtown Gangneung and was moved to its present site and rebuilt some 150 years ago; the date of its original construction is unknown. It is a typical square-plan (mia-ja) house arranged around a central main house (anchae), with a small sarangchae to the left, a storehouse wing to the right, and a large sarangchae at the front. The main house, measuring five bays across the front and two bays along the side, has an ornate hipped-and-gabled roof whose sides flare out like the Chinese character for 'eight' (八), and contains three rooms, a wooden-floored hall and a kitchen. It was originally built in the double-row (gyeopjip) style, but its rooms are now joined in a long row, and its stone platform was raised higher than that of the sarangchae to allow for better light and ventilation. To the left of the main house stands the small sarangchae, linked by a small gate to the large sarangchae, the sarangchae as a whole forming an L-shape in plan. On the courtyard side of the sarangchae a wooden veranda runs along, serving as a passage linking the rooms. The storehouse wing connects to the kitchen of the main house, and a cattle shed stands near the main gate, which itself is set between the large sarangchae and the cattle shed. Two old crape myrtle trees stand in front of the sarangchae.
