Yongheungnihaejeongsa Temple Epitaph Tablet Tap
용흥리해정사지석탑 · 龍興里海鼎寺址石塔

This pagoda stands on the northern foot of Seonghwangsan Mountain, where the Gobu-eupseong, a walled town, is located. Roof-tile fragments inscribed with the name "Haejeongsa" have been found nearby, and the site is said to be the former location of this temple. The pagoda consists of a two-tiered base supporting the weight of the whole structure, topped by a three-storey body, whose finial was made separately and added later. On all four sides of each base tier, and on each body stone of the pagoda, corner pilasters carved in imitation of columns are placed at each edge. The roof stones have three-stepped supports on their undersides, and although not particularly thick overall, they lack a sense of lightness. Judging from the simplified workmanship seen throughout, the pagoda is thought to have been erected during the Goryeo period; the first-storey body stone, however, appears excessively large, so that the proportions are unbalanced. Since the stone pagodas around Gobu-eupseong all have a two-tiered base and stand five storeys or more in height, this pagoda too is presumed to have originally had around five storeys.
