Ogongsinhoemaengchuk
오공신회맹축 · 五功臣會盟軸

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a document in which, on 14 November 1456, the second year of King Sejo, the crown prince, five groups of gongsin (meritorious subjects, officials honoured for service to the throne), and 239 of their descendants swore before Jongmyo Shrine and the state altars of soil and grain that they were grateful for the grace of the state and would be united in spirit, like flesh and blood, among the descendants of meritorious subjects. After the failed attempt in June of that year to restore King Danjong to the throne, state affairs remained in turmoil, and this is the record of the covenant meeting held by the five groups of gongsin — the Gaeguk, Jeongsa, Jwamyeong, Jeongnan and Jwaik gongsin. The opening section, missing from the copy held in the Kyujanggak Library collection, survives here intact. Only 157 people signed, while 82 others, including Han Myeong-hoe and Kim Jil, did not — making this important material that shows the realities of the time all the more clearly.
