This seated stone Buddha, 96 cm tall, stands in Tapdong Village, on the hillside near the site of Haejeongsa Temple in Yeongwon-myeon, Jeongeup, Jeollabuk-do. Its head has been lost, and severe weathering has worn away the detail of its features. The robe covers both shoulders, and the hands are joined at the chest, suggesting that the figure represents Vairocana Buddha. Lotus flowers are carved on both the upper and lower parts of the square pedestal. Judging from the form of the pedestal and the lotus pattern, the statue is presumed to date from the early Goryeo period.
