Ganghakdang, the Lecture Hall, was built in 1548, the fourth year of King Myeongjong of Joseon. It is a building five bays wide across the front and two bays deep, with a hipped-and-gabled roof, and was the place where Kim Gi-seo trained the younger generation of scholars. Kim Gi-seo was of the Gwangsan Kim clan; his courtesy name was Sigyeon and his sobriquet Donmokjae. He was a disciple of Jo Gwang-jo, whose sobriquet was Jeongam, and when the Gimyo Purge broke out in 1519, the fourteenth year of King Jungjong, and Jo Gwang-jo and other reform-minded scholars were purged en masse, Kim Gi-seo shut himself away here and devoted all his energy to training younger scholars. The building measures 12.2 m across the front and 4.7 m in depth, with columns 2.37 m high. It consists of a two-bay central hall, a two-bay side room to the left and a one-bay side room to the right, and is known as a modest example of early-Joseon architecture. It is also said, on the other hand, to occupy the site of a Buddha hall belonging to Jeonbulsa Temple.
