This work was produced by painters of the Dohwaseo, the royal bureau of painting, as a documentary record commemorating King Yeongjo's chinjeong session, held at Huijeongdang Hall on 9 February 1734, in which the king personally presided over personnel appointments. It takes the form of an eight-leaf album: leaves three and four depict the scene of the chinjeong session, while leaves five and six record a seating list of the officials in attendance. Chinjeong refers to the king's direct conduct of personnel administration; after his accession King Yeongjo generally held such sessions once every two to three years, and the 1734 session was his seventh. Other albums from King Yeongjo's reign designated as cultural heritage in Busan include the Giyeonggak Sicheop (Giyeonggak Poetry Album), produced in 1763, and the Eojeon Juncheon Jemyeongcheop, produced in 1760. The Gabinchun Chinjeongdo has no royal inscription or calligraphy and consists, rather simply, of a single painted scene and a seating list. Even so, it is the earliest of the surviving albums from King Yeongjo's reign now remaining in the Busan region. Whereas the figures in the scenes of the Giyeonggak Sicheop are repeated using a few stamped seals, the figures in this work were drawn directly with a fine brush, and the layout and depiction of the buildings are ordered and stable, reflecting the extremely refined level of gyehwa, precise architectural line-drawing, achieved by the Dohwaseo painters. The chinjeong session of King Yeongjo recorded in this work matches the account in the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, and the work's date of production and its origin in the Dohwaseo are both clearly established, giving it high evidentiary value. King Yeongjo's reign was moreover a period when many documentary paintings were produced, a so-called golden age of documentary painting; made relatively early within that period, this work can be regarded as a model for the documentary paintings that followed, and it is also an important source for the history of architecture, since it shows the changing appearance of palace buildings.
