This pagoda was found buried in the ground while the present temple building was being newly erected on the site known as the old grounds of Bomunsa Temple. It is a cheongseoktap, a pagoda built of jeompanam, slate, the stone once used for making inkstones. The structure consists of a five-storey body set on a two-tiered base, but because the base and body are similar in appearance, the division between them is not clearly distinguished. A tall, broad two-tiered granite platform has now been placed beneath the pagoda to protect it. The upper surfaces of the upper and lower base tiers are carved with lotus flowers, and each body stone of the pagoda is inscribed with Sanskrit characters, the script of Buddhist scripture. Not all of the pagoda's present components are original: apart from the body stones of the second, third and fourth storeys, the five roof stones, and the topmost stones of the two base tiers, the rest have recently been newly made and fitted in. Perhaps because it lay buried underground for so long, many parts are badly worn or broken, but it remains a valuable pagoda that shows the cheongseoktap style of the Goryeo period.
