This is a three-story stone pagoda of the Goryeo period, standing in front of Daeungjeon Hall within Sudeoksa Temple. It consists of a three-storey body set on a two-tier base, topped with a finial. Pillar shapes are carved on the upper and lower tiers of the base and on the body stones of each storey. The roof stones have four steps of eaves-support blocks on their undersides, and the four corners curve up slightly. At the top is a noban (an exposed-plate finial base) carved from the same stone as the third-storey roof stone, and above it sit a boryun (a wheel-shaped finial ornament) and a bogae (a canopy-shaped finial ornament), completing the crowning decoration. Although parts of the corners of the first- and second-storey roof stones are damaged, the pagoda as a whole is well balanced in its proportions and gives an impression of stability. It is said to have been built in 665, the fifth year of King Munmu of Unified Silla, but this is not certain; rather, compared with the finest Unified Silla stone pagodas, the number of corner-pillar carvings on the base has decreased and the eaves-support steps on the roof stones have been reduced to four, suggesting that it is in fact a work of the Goryeo period.
