These relics are items that General Bak Jin-yeong, pen name Gwangseo (1569–1641), a military official of the reign of King Injo of Joseon, used in daily life, together with a certificate of commendation he received from a Ming Chinese commander. When the Japanese invasions broke out in 1592, the twenty-fifth year of King Seonjo, Bak Jin-yeong joined the county magistrate Yu Sung-in in raising a righteous army and repelling the Japanese forces. In 1599, the thirty-second year of King Seonjo, he was appointed magistrate of Yonggung County, and in 1613, the fifth year of King Gwanghaegun, he was appointed commissioner of Gyeongheung. When Yi Gwal's Rebellion broke out in 1624, the second year of King Injo, he joined the command of Supreme Commander Jang Man and won a great victory at Donggyo. In 1636, the fourteenth year of King Injo, the Manchu invasion of Joseon broke out, and Bak, bitterly grieving over Joseon's humiliating surrender to Qing China, died in 1641, the nineteenth year of King Injo, at the age of seventy-three.
