These are the artefacts left by General Jo Pil-dal (1600–1664): his military uniform, the commander's flag of the Honam land forces, a quiver, letters of appointment (gosin), 12 royal commissions (gyoji), and a document of admonition (nonsi). Together they form important material for studying the military organisation and officer ranks of the reigns of King Injo, King Hyojong and King Hyeonjong. General Jo Pil-dal guarded the crown prince during the Jeongmyo War (the second Manchu invasion of 1627), and guarded King Injo at Namhansanseong Fortress during the Byeongja War (the Manchu invasion of 1636). Under King Hyojong he took part in the campaign to conquer the north together with Song Si-yeol, and rose to become Samdo Sugun Tongjesa, Naval Commander of the Three Provinces, while concurrently holding the post of Naval Commander of Gyeongsang Right Province.
