Nanjungjamnok
난중잡록 · 亂中雜錄

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a record kept by Jo Gyeong-nam, who was active as a leader of a righteous army during the Japanese invasions of 1592–98, setting down important events in the country over the fifty-seven years from 1585, when he was thirteen and it was the fifteenth year of King Seonjo's reign, to 1637, the fifteenth year of King Injo's reign; it is also known as the Sanseo Yasa (Unofficial History of Sanseo). The sections dealing with the Japanese invasions of 1592 and 1597 in particular are treated far more extensively than in General Yi Sun-sin's Nanjung ilgi (War Diary), and besides this it records in detail such major conflicts as Yi Gwal's Rebellion, the Manchu invasion of 1636, and the Manchu invasion of 1627, together with the customs of the time and events that occurred at court. It comprises ten volumes in total, of which, for convenience, the latter five are referred to as the Sokjamnok (Sequel to the Jamnok). It is currently held by his descendants, and should the original text be made public, its heritage value is expected to be considerable. It is also regarded as a very important source for research into the history of warfare in the Joseon period.
