A stupa (budo) symbolises a Buddhist monk's grave, housing his remains or relics (sarira). This stupa stands within Bongseosa Temple and enshrines the relics of Master Jinmuk, a monk of the Joseon period. Master Jinmuk restored this temple, remained there in practice, and ended his life at this place. The stupa consists of a round body set on a base, with most of its members formed in an octagonal shape. The two-tiered base has a symmetrical structure, with a thickly carved lotus design at the point where the two tiers meet. The body stone of the stupa is round, slightly flattened at the top and bottom, and topped by a blunt roof stone. At the very top, the finial is formed of an ang-hwa (an upward-facing lotus-shaped ornament), a bokbal (an ornament shaped like an overturned bowl) and a boju (a flower-bud-shaped ornament). The style and decoration of each part have grown somewhat formulaic, making this a typical stupa of the Joseon period.
