Andong Hari-dong Three-story Stone Pagoda
안동하리동삼층석탑 · 安東下里洞三層石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis pagoda has a three-storey body erected above a base whose lower part is buried in the ground. Pilaster-like corner posts are carved at each corner of every storey's body stone. The thick roof stones carry, on their undersides, four tiers of support carving on the first storey and three tiers on the second and third storeys; however, a single extra support block was added above the body stones of the second and third storeys to bear the roof stone, so that from the outside the roof-stone supports appear to have four tiers throughout — a distinctive feature. Compared with stone pagodas from the height of the Unified Silla period, the roof stones here are thicker and the number of support tiers fewer, suggesting that the pagoda was erected during the Goryeo period. In addition, its structure displays a stone pagoda style peculiar to this region, making it valuable material for the study of stone pagodas.
