양산 통도사 청동시루 · 靑銅시루<철부포함>

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krA siru is a kitchen vessel used for steaming rice or rice cakes; this is a large siru measuring 73cm in overall height and 123cm in diameter, and weighing 350 geun, a traditional unit of weight. The large circular cauldron with three legs currently placed beneath the siru appears to have been used together with it as a matching pair from the outset. The bronze siru has handles at four points and remains in good condition; it is kept at the Tongdosa Temple Museum. An inscription states that it was made in 1659, the tenth year of King Hyojong of Joseon. It is said that this bronze siru was used by the some 600 monks of Tongdosa Temple to steam rice cakes and rice for their meals.
