The Daehanguk-Daecheongguk Tongsang Joyak (Treaty of Commerce between the Great Han Empire and the Great Qing Empire) is a trade agreement of fifteen articles in total, concluded between Joseon and Qing China on 11 September in the third year of Gwangmu (the sixteenth year of Emperor Gojong, 1879). The full text is set out in fifteen articles (gwan), whose gist is that Korea and China would protect each other's resident nationals on an equal footing, and that, under the direction of the plenipotentiaries of both countries, merchant ships could trade only within the commercial areas designated by the two countries. It also includes provisions that, if a Chinese national committed an offence, the matter would be referred to and judged through the Qing consulate, and that the merchant ships of both countries would assist one another when caught in storms or short of provisions in each other's coastal waters. It was signed on behalf of the two states by Foreign Minister Park Je-sun for Korea and by the Qing minister Seo Su-bung for China.
