Located in Chimsikgol Valley east of Baegunam Hermitage, in Naenam-myeon, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, this Buddha statue has now lost its head, but the rest of the figure survives in generally good condition. On the neck, three lines symbolising the three realms are clearly carved. The robe, baring the right shoulder and draped over the left shoulder only, is carved with stepped drapery folds. The left hand, palm showing, rests against the abdomen, while the right hand lies on the knee with the back of the hand showing and the fingertips pointing toward the ground. The pedestal consists of three tiers: upper, middle and lower. The upper tier is carved with upward-facing lotus petals, the middle tier is octagonal and unadorned, and the lower tier is carved with downward-facing lotus petals. In the form of the chest and other parts of the body, the statue faithfully reflects the style of the early 8th century; however, the right-angled shoulders, the stepped drapery folds, and the lotus ornament on the upper pedestal stone suggest that it was in fact made in the late 8th or early 9th century.
