This stele stands in a hip-and-gable-roofed stele pavilion behind the Suhangnu Pavilion, within the grounds of Sebyeonggwan Hall (National Treasure No. 305) in Tongyeong. It was erected to commemorate Yi Gyeong-jun, the sixth Naval Commander (Tongjesa), who built the naval headquarters, Tongjeyeong, at this site. The stele consists of a body set on a pedestal stone and capped with a headstone, on which clouds and two dragons holding a magic jewel in their mouths are carved. The inscription records the circumstances of the stele's erection, the family background and career of Commander Yi Gyeong-jun, the reasons for moving the Tongjeyeong to Duryongpo, and an account of Yi's character and achievements. It was erected in 1625, the third year of King Injo of Joseon, by Gu In-hu, the nineteenth Naval Commander; the names of the composer and calligrapher of the inscription are unknown, as the lower part of the text has worn away. It originally stood on the main road along the shore outside the south gate of the Tongjeyeong, but was moved to its present site in 1904, the eighth year of the Gwangmu era under Emperor Gojong. In 1996 a new pedestal stone was made and a stele pavilion built to protect it.
