Three-story Stone Pagoda in Wonjeong-ri, Boeun
보은 원정리 삼층석탑 · 報恩 遠汀里 三層石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krStanding on the site of an old Silla-period temple, this stone pagoda has a three-storey body raised on a single-tier base, topped with a finial. Pillar shapes are carved at the four corners of the base, and a tall support block is set on its upper surface to hold up the first storey's body stone. Pillar shapes are also carved on each body stone of the pagoda, though some are damaged. The roof stones, which look thick, have their four corners raised upward, giving a light, buoyant look, and each has three tiers of support beneath. Only the noban (a plate supporting the crowning ornament) and the boryun (a wheel-shaped ornament) remain at the top, forming the finial. Judging from the single-tier base, the tall support beneath the pagoda body, the thick roof stones and the three-tiered roof-stone supports, the pagoda is thought to have been erected during the Goryeo period.
