Three-story Stone Pagoda in Duam-ri, Okcheon
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

This pagoda stands beside a house in Duam Village; since roof-tile fragments from the Goryeo period have been found in the vicinity, the site is known to have been the location of an old temple at that time. The pagoda has a two-tiered base supporting the whole weight of the structure, above which rise three storeys of body stones; apart from the finial atop the pagoda, it has largely retained its original form. On each face of the lower base, three blind niches have been carved in shallow relief, while on the upper base, pillar-shaped carvings have been placed at the four corners and in the centre of each face. On one side of the first-storey body stone a door shape has been carved, within which a lock is also depicted. The roof stones have three-tiered eaves supports on their undersides, and the eaves are horizontal but curve slightly upward at the four corners. While the pagoda follows the basic Unified Silla style of a three-storey body on a two-tiered base, its lower base and roof stones depart from that typical form, suggesting that it was erected in the early Goryeo period.
