Provincial Tangible HeritageJoseon · 1784

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a Buddha image enshrined at Manworam Hermitage in Dobong-gu, Seoul. Only the rock-cave worship hall of Manworam survives today, but the date of the Buddha's making is recorded on its wall, making it an important source for the study of stone Buddha images. Based on the surviving record, the image is thought to have been made around the 1700s, with the latest possible date being 1784. With its neat, compact face, a height close to that of a person, a well-proportioned build, and a robe draped over both shoulders, this is considered an outstanding stone Buddha image of the late Joseon period.
