A dongheon was a local government office of the Joseon period, where the county magistrate carried out ordinary administrative business and official duties such as trials. Records show that Seokseong Government Office was built in 1628, the sixth year of King Injo, and has come down to today after several rounds of repair. Seokseong was originally Jinaksan County of Baekje, but its name was changed to Seokseong early in the Goryeo period. In 1415, the 15th year of King Taejong of Joseon, a hyeon (county) was established there; it later became a gun (larger county), and in 1914 it became a myeon (township). The building has four bays across the front and three bays along the side, with single eaves, and a hip-and-gable roof whose sides form the shape of the character for "eight". It is a Korean-style building that served as the Seokseong township office; although many government office buildings once stood in the area, none survive today apart from this one.
